Perilous Adventures to Thwart the Dark God

"Then came too late the warning of the evil one, the sardonic caution of the daemon legate who had bidden the seeker beware the madness of that song. Only to taunt had Nyarlathotep marked out the way to safety and the marbellous sunset city; only to mock had that black messenger revealed the secret of these truant godss whose steps he could so easily lead back at will. For madness and the void's wild vengeance are Nyarlathotep's only gifts to the presumptuous...

"...go out among men and find the ways thereof, that He in the Gulf may know. To Nyarlathotep, Mighty Messenger, must all things be told. And he shall put on the semblance of me, the waxen mask and the robe that hides, and come down from the world of seven suns to mock...

"Nyarlathotep, Great Messenger, bringer of strange joy to Yuggoth through the void, Father of the Million Favored Ones...."

-- H. P. Lovecraft

A Campaign for Call of Cthulhu

When playboy Roger Carlyle met the African Woman, he took a turn for the worse. Every morning he related strange recurring dreams full of Egyptian symbols and mystic beckonings. His friends were puzzled, and the newspaper gossip columns were fascinated. No one ever imagined that the expedition would meet such a terrible fate a few months later....

At last the stars are almost right. Soon Nyarlathotep's plans will come to fruition. Then the world will be changed irrevocably—but not quite yet. Pesky human investigators have learned much. Now they must survive long enough to make sense of what they know, and take resolute action.

This roleplaying classic is a series of linked adventures forming one long and unforgettable campaign. Horrifying deeds and dangerous sorcery dog those who dare attempt to unravel the fate of the Carlyle Expedition. The non-linear narrative keeps players baffled and on their toes. Action is the byword as the player-characters evade or combat cultists, magic, mad men, and the dread powers of the Outer Gods.

Comments / Trivia

A section in Australia was submitted at the same time as the rest of this campaign, but not included in the first two editions (due cost/space constraints). It appeared individually in Terror Australis as the adventure City Beneath the Sands. It was later re-incorporated into the 3rd and 4th editions.
