For A Price It's a lonely life investigating grisly affairs and confronting unnamable horrors, and it requires all sorts of materials that can't be bought at the corner store as well as information that isn't found in mass-market publications. Sometimes it seems like an investigator is all on his or her own, with no one to turn to for advice, assistance, or just fairly-priced goods of a specific nature. But if you wander down the right back alley, you may be surprised what you find. ''A Peculiar Pentad'' presents five shops that every investigator may want, or need, to visit-a rare book store where the proprietor quotes from texts that were supposedly lost to the ages; a repair shop whose owner can get any mechanical device, no matter where or when it was made, functioning as good as new-probably better; a private social club that caters to those who have seen things no human ever should, and more. Written by a quintet of fan-favorite and award-winning game designers including Jeff Grubb, Gwendolyn F.M. Kestrel, Jeff Quick, John D. Rateliff, and Thomas M. Reid, ''A Peculiar Pentad'' is the first in a series of sourcebooks designed to provide resources and inspiration to ''Call of Cthulhu'' players and Keepers alike. The book begins with an '''Introduction'' (by Stan!) which describes the purpose of this sourcebook, provides some general notes about how investigators might find the Occult stores described, and how the proprietor might treat different customers. It also includes some general thoughts on where to locate the stores in the Keeper's game world, even including an example "occult quarter" (Pentagon Place) that could be slotted into any city. The bulk of the book describes the five occult stores. Each section has a common format, describing the nature of the store, its proprietor(s), Goods and Services offered, some Adventure Hooks and a brief bio on the author of that section. The five stores described in this book are: * '''The Bibliophorium''' deals in rare and valuable tomes * '''Fixx's Fixxit''' is a curious "watch, clock and mechanical repair" store * '''Healing Herbs''' sells Chinese herbal remedies * '''Húbert’s Fine Arts''' is a purveyor of specialty painting and sculptures * '''The Sleipnir Club''' is a metropolitan social club (set, by default, in New York City) The intention is that these businesses could be used as "regular" service providers through multiple adventures of an ongoing campaign. ==Front Cover Text== No additional text. ==Back Cover Text== A Peculiar Pentad Help Is Here ...
